In the United States, Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 8, 2026. US residents–except those in Arizona and Hawaii–will set clocks forward by one hour.<\/p>\n
However, the future of changing the clocks twice a year is up in the air: in 2021, the US Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act<\/a>, which, if enacted, would make Daylight Savings time the new, permanent time. We would no longer change our clocks in the fall and the spring. The bill is currently stuck in committee<\/a> in the US House of Representatives, and its future is uncertain. For the foreseeable future, most US residents will continue to \u201cspring forward\u201d and \u201cfall back.\u201d<\/p>\n Locally, efforts have also been made to move away from changing the clocks. In 2019, Oregon\u2019s legislature passed a measure to adopt Daylight Savings Time year-round<\/a>, but in order to take effect, all West Coast states would have to agree on the change, and this bill stalled without action.<\/p>\n Oregonians who dislike the twice-annual clock changes had reason for hope again in early 2024. However, despite a flurry of activity<\/a> in Salem, the bill to do away with Daylight Savings Time stalled in the legislature and is now dead<\/a>.
